UvA Computer Museum catalogue nr 00.15
The CBM (Commodore Business Machines Inc.) 2001, also known as PET
(Personal Electronic Transactor) was introduced in 1977. Some of
its characteristics are:
- 9" CRT, 25 lines of 40 characters
- MOS Technology 6502 processor, clock 1 MHz, 8 kB RAM, 14 kB ROM
(for operating system and BASIC interpreter)
- (audio)cassette drive for data storage, effective transfer data
rate 600 bits/sec, using Commodore's proprietary data format. Hence
on a 30-minutes audio cassette there was room for about 120 kbytes.
- IEEE 488 General Purpose Interface Bus connector
The CBM 2001 has a peculiar
keyboard. From the simple graphic patterns corresponding with
the various keys, primitive pictures could be assembled.
The machine has been very successful among computer hobbyists
though it was designed for the professional market in the first
place. It was sold for US$ 1600.
This machine was donated by Mr. J. Franssen.
