UvA Computer Museum catalogue nr 98.08

IBM082
This is an electro-mechanical card sorting machine. Cards are selected according to the presence of punched holes in predefined locations, which are detected by an adjustable contact brush. Click here for a close-up of the right end of the machine, taken from the Customer Engineering Manual.
The machine can process about 1000 cards per minute.
The type of the six electron tubes used by the machine and other constructional details suggest that the sorter was designed in the early 1940's. However this particular machine was delivered in 1966. It is still in serviceable order.

This machine was obtained through the mediation of Mr. Ton van der Stap
