UvA Computer Museum catalogue nr 01.48

This tape drive accomodates both PE (phase encoded) and GCR (Group Coded Recording, 6250 bpi) tapes, with 37 MB and 123 MB of formatted capacity, respectively (on a 2400 ft reel). It can be operated in both streaming and start-stop modes. Compressed air is used for air bearings, however there is no difficult-to-maintain vacuum system for tape slack buffers. Instead, tape tensioning is controlled by solid-state sensors.
Our unit has provisions for both standard Pertec interfacing and SCSI.

This machine was donated by Mr. F. van den Bercken, Venlo, The Netherlands. The picture is reproduced from a Control Data brochure.
