Exidy Sorcerer home computer
UvA Computer Museum catalogue nr 99.74
The Exidy Systems Sorcerer 2 (1979) was produced under license
by Compudata, Holland. It was sold (with substantial government
support) to many Dutch technical schools.
The Sorcerer had 16, 32 or 48 kB RAM on board which could be
increased to a maximum of 64 kB using an S-100 bus based expansion
box. Screen RAM supported 30 lines of 64 characters.
Besides a 4 kB power-on monitor, firmware in an 8 kB or 16 kB ROM
pack could be plugged in.
On the machines with floppy drives, CP/M could be run. A 5.25 inch
floppy disk (hard sectored, 77 tracks, Exidy proprietary format)
had room for 315 kB. For connecting the drives a controller card
had to be placed in the S-100 expansion box. (Unfortunately the
S-100 bus had several non-standard features, as was often the case
with S-100 bus systems).
A fully equipped system with floppy drives was usually only
available for the technical school staff. The students would use
the basic system with audio-cassette mass storage, running Basic
from plugged-in ROM.
This machine was donated by Mr. E.H. Spits, Oostzaan
