Teledynamics ZIP-30 ASR teleprinter

UvA Computer Museum catalogue nr 95.37

This machine is a Teletype replacement from about 1980. Many of the mechanical parts of the Teletype have been substituted by electronics; the printing mechanism itself uses the needle-impact principle, allowing both upper and lower case letters to be printed (the full ASCII-7 character set). Another improvement is the optical papertape reader (evidently, the papertape punch remained purely mechanical).
The unit works at either 10 or 30 characters per second (110 or 300 baud). There are built-in RS232 and current-loop interfaces.

This teleprinter was donated by the NIKHEF laboratory for nuclear and high-energy physics, Amsterdam.
The user manual (in German) is available for download (pdf 4.3 MB).
