IBM System/34 (5340)
UvA Computer Museum catalogue nr 01.47
This computer from IBM's successful System/3x series (the
predecessor of the AS/400 series) was introduced in 1977 and
withdrawn from the market in 1979. Our machine has four 62PC hard
disks and an 8" floppy disk station - in fact a sort of 'diskette
jukebox'. There are three 5251 terminals. Unfortunately we don't
have any manuals describing the details of the machine's hardware.
In the picture, the 5340 system unit is the rectangular box
near the middle back of the picture. Its dimensions
are 70x190x121 cm. It weighs more than 1000
kg.
